The Disgusting Sandwich

The Disgusting Sandwich

Year 2 had such fun following instructions to make their very own disgusting sandwiches like in the story that we had read. They were amazing chefs and thought of lots of verbs to collect and synonyms vocabulary for ‘disgusting’. We are looking forward to writing our own disgusting soup recipes.

Great Fire of London

Mrs Hardman challenged us to put the fire out in Pudding Lane, but by the time we had got water from the River Thames the fire had spread! We had great fun learning why the fire of London spread and how hard it was to stop it getting bigger.

Great Explorer Timelines

We were all very conscientious when making our explorer timelines. We had to order the main events of the lives of these important people.

The Big Story

Year 2 had a lovely ‘RE Day’. What a creative bunch they are!!! We thought about ‘The Fall’ part of ‘The Big Story’ where they came up with loads of fabulous vocabulary for what things make our world a lovely place and what bad things there are too. We started the discussion with the story of Adam and Eve. They created a fantastic collage to represent these ideas. Every child was involved in collaging the background, making a link for our chain and used pastels to represent the other ideas in images. As a team, they have produced a STUNNING piece of artwork. Please come in and take a look and ask your child about how they were involved and the ideas that they contributed.
Also as part of this day, we thought about the school vision …”Love one another as Jesus loved us”. We learnt about The Good Samaritan and wrote prayers on bunting and promises on bookmarks to reflect on how we can live out this vision. What a fun day we all had!

The class have produced some outstanding work from their research of mountains. They chose which mountain to research and how to present their information, clearly dedicating much time and effort into the research at home. In class, the children presented their information, showing excellent communication skills and knowledge. Amazing work, Year 5!

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Year 2 led a class assembly on Friday about kindness. They also hosted a coffee morning to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. The raised an amazing £520.55!
Thank you so much to all the parents, grandparents and pupils who supported this event with their fantastic cake baking, hosting and generosity.

Christopher Columbus and Neil Armstrong

Year 2 loved the workshop led by Freshwater theatre workshop. They explored the life and times of Neil Armstrong and Christopher Columbus, two intrepid explorers; recreating the events of their journeys, so pupils will discover the many similarities between these two men.
The facilitator was in the guise of a time Traveller and worked with the class, taking the children on imaginary journeys back to the 15thCentury and then to the 20thCentury. Pupils embarked on a voyage from Genoa heading west across the ocean and launched into space in Apollo 11.

Numeracy Activities

We enjoyed working in pairs and teams to use lots of different maths apparatus to represent numbers in different ways.

So far we have really enjoyed our dance and gymnastic lessons this half term. We’ve been trying particularly hard to create ‘smart’ gymnastic poses and balances. We’ve loved the creativity and the music in our dance lessons too.
