World Book Day
What an exciting World Book Day. So many activities and so much fun, whilst deepening the culture and importance of reading for pleasure !
Drop and Read !
Our school was filled with excitement during our special “Drop and Read” event!
Throughout the day, pupils and staff carried their books wherever they went, ready for the signal to drop everything and read.
When the signal sounded, everyone paused what they were doing and opened their books. From classrooms to corridors, the whole school became a community of readers.
There was a real buzz around the school, with pupils loving the anticipation of when the next signal would come. The best part was discovering all the unusual moments we could read – during worship, while having lunch, and in many other unexpected times throughout the day!
It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying books together and celebrating the joy of reading.
St Mary's Wonderous Bars
Excitement has been building across the school with our St Mary’s Wondrous Bars! Hidden inside some of the bars were very special prizes… Golden Tickets and Silver Tickets.
But the big question is… who are our lucky winners?

Discover Our New Outdoor Lending Library!
Exciting news! Our school now has its very own Outdoor Lending Library – a wonderful place where books can travel from one reader to another.
The idea is simple: swap a book, lend a book, or just pick one up and enjoy!
Whether you want to take a story home, share a favourite you’ve already read, or sit outside and dive into a new adventure, the choice is yours. Our cosy outdoor reading spot is the perfect place to relax, explore new worlds, and enjoy the magic of books in the fresh air.
By sharing books with each other, we can discover stories our friends have loved and pass along ones that inspired us. It’s a brilliant way to keep reading exciting and build a community of book lovers across the school.
📖 How it works:
Take a book to read
Swap it with one from home
Or simply sit outside and enjoy reading
Please remember to look after the books so everyone can enjoy them. When you’ve finished, return them to the library or swap them for another great read.
Let’s fill our Outdoor Lending Library with fantastic stories and make reading an adventure for everyone!
Happy reading! 🌞📚
St Mary’s Reading Café
Our school hall was transformed into St Mary’s very own Reading Café, inspired by the cosy feel of a coffee shop!
Before the school day began, pupils and adults gathered together to enjoy a relaxed start to the morning.
There were cups of tea, coffee, juice and biscuits, but most importantly, there was an array of wonderful books to read and share together.
Parents and pupils enjoyed sharing a good story and reading alongside one another in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
It was lovely to see so many people taking the time to enjoy books together before the busy school day began. Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make the event such a success.
Keep an eye out for more Reading Cafés later in the academic year – we can’t wait to do it all again!
