Exploring OS Maps

Class: Year 3 Year: 2026 - 2027

This week, Year 3 have been looking at Ordnance Survey maps. We discussed that maps cannot show everything as a photograph can so we use symbols. We know that a key is used to tell us what the symbols mean. We first played a game of "symbols detective" where we explored OS maps of Manchester, looked at the key and then tried to identify points of interest on the map. Following this, we took the Oldham section of the OS map and created our own key with hand drawn symbols.
