Year 2 Aspirations Week

Lesson: Careers

Class: Year 2 Year: 2026 - 2027

We have been incredibly fortunate to have lots of Year 2 parent’s give their time to come and talk to us about their careers this week.

Mrs Pickford came to talk to us about her career as a graphic designer making cards. We enjoyed learning about how she designs them on a special drawing pad before they are sent off to be made in China. We got to look at some of the cards that she has designed.

Mr Lomax who is a paramedic, showed us all the important equipment that he carries and uses in his job. We even enjoyed seeing inside the ambulance, trying on some uniform and learning CPR techniques!

Mr Griffin brought along a fire crew to tell us all about how and why they decided to become firefighters. We learnt that Mr Griffin  chose this career because wanted to do something more exciting and make a difference to people’s lives. We also learnt that it’s not easy to become a firefighter!  We loved looking at the different piece of important equipment that firefighters use to help save lives and we even got to try some on! We loved sitting inside the fire engine and squirting water from the hoses.

Mr Brierley  came to talk to us about his career as a police officer and how he feels proud to be serving and keeping the community safe. He shared the message that you should always aim high and work hard to follow your ambitions and dreams!

We even got a visit from a pilot who is an ex-pupil of St Mary’s School.

What an inspiring week we have had!
